Destination: the east coast! Kelly Clarkson is moving her talk program, which bears her name, to New York City so that she may be closer to her family.
The news that Kelly Clarkson would be transferring her daytime talk program from its longstanding home in Los Angeles to its new home in Manhattan was first reported in the beginning of May. Now, the pop singer and host of the daytime talk show is providing an explanation for the significant move.
Clarkson recently clarified the situation when she was speaking with TalkShopLive. She said that she had first informed her team about the transfer back in January.
“I talked to them because I told them, ‘Guys, I need you to know what’s happening.’” Clarkson claimed that she told the producers, “It’s either I’m not going to be able to continue the show or I gotta go East Coast.”
The singer elaborated by saying that when the coronavirus epidemic was going on, she had the epiphany that “being isolated and so far from your family… that’s not good for anyone.”
“My family is from the East Coast, and they are situated in North Carolina. She said that “it was one of those things where I just had to,” adding that “there were a lot of personal things going on,” as the reason why she felt compelled to disclose the information.
According to Clarkson, it was essential for her and her family to move, and she emphasized that they “really needed a fresh start.” She lauded NBC for their choice to stand by it and recounted asking the executives of the network, “I know we can’t do this from my ranch so any way we could do it in New York? At the very least, it’s a shorter drive to see my loved ones. That was in all honesty the primary reason.
An NBCUniversal spokesman confirmed to ET earlier this month that The Kelly Clarkson Show would move its headquarters in the autumn to NBC Studios in Manhattan’s 30 Rockefeller Center. The move is scheduled to take place in the fall. The taping of Clarkson’s program will take place in Studio 6A, with a live audience in the studio.
Since its premiere in 2019, the chat show airing during the afternoon hours has had its studios located on the Universal City lot in Los Angeles.
The announcement is a significant step forward for both Clarkson and the syndicated talk show, which received a renewal contract until the year 2025 back in November. The Kelly Clarkson Show has kicked off the first two seasons of its current run, which is the fourth season, with unique week-long stints broadcast live from New York City.
After the announcement of the relocation across the nation, Rolling Stone published an exposé in which 11 current and former employees of The Kelly Clarkson program alleged that the program is “a toxic work environment.” This came a few days after the news of the relocation.
Clarkson responded to the allegations in the story immediately after it was published on Instagram by posting her response.
