All three of Carol Burnett’s daughters have followed in their famous mother’s footsteps and pursued careers in show business…

Carol Burnett is a beloved performer in the fields of singing, acting, and comedy. For the last almost seventy years, she has given a beam of sunshine and joy to our television screens. Even after she will have celebrated her 90th birthday at the end of April 2023, it is incredible to think that she is still going strong.

Burnett was born in San Antonio, Texas, on April 26, 1933, but she relocated to Los Angeles at a later time to live with her grandmother in Hollywood. It was there that she received her high school education at Hollywood High. After graduating from high school, she continued her education at UCLA, and it was there that she discovered her passion for performing. The rest, as they say, is history.

After graduating from high school, Burnett moved to New York City to pursue a career in acting. She first worked in theatrical productions before getting cast in roles on several television shows. The Carol Burnett program was a variety program with vaudeville origins that included dancing, singing, and comic skits. Burnett had her own show within a few years, and it was called “The Carol Burnett Show.” The show ran on CBS from 1967 through 1978 and had massive levels of viewership during its run.

It didn’t take Burnett long to establish herself as one of the most famous comedy queens in the performing world. The success of her variety show led to her landing important parts in movies and on television, such as that of Miss Hannigan, the proprietor of the orphanage, in the 1982 film adaptation of “Annie.”

Although the well-liked performer has thrown a ray of sunshine into our televisions for more than half a century, she has also struggled in her personal life, and this is something that many people find surprising. Joe Hamilton, a TV producer, and Carol Burnett were married from 1963 to 1984. During that time, Burnett started her family with Joe. Carrie, Jody, and Erin Hamilton were the three girls who came into the world as a result of their union. Burnett could not anticipate the tragic turn of events that would take place in the future; as a result, she was caught off guard when it occurred. All three of her daughters went on to have successful careers in their own way. Continue reading to find out more information on Burnett’s children.

Carrie Burnett, Burnett’s eldest daughter, was born in 1963 and went on to have a successful career in the entertainment industry. In a profile that was published in 1979 in Interview Magazine, Burnett described her daughter as having a keen ability to recognize potential. Burnett said:

“My eldest child is quite opinionated. In my opinion, they should invite children to the networks and make them view programming that is appropriate for their age group. Kids tend to be quite forthright. They do not sugarcoat the truth in any way. She has already projected that “Mork and Mindy” would be a huge smash for ABC.” She says, ‘It’s going to be a smash because that guy’s gonna be the new Fonz.’”

When you consider that she was referring to Robin Williams, you have to admit that she had a natural talent for the entertainment industry. However, a terrible accident would occur. Carrie’s struggles with substance abuse and alcoholism began when she was a teenager, and they lasted far into her adulthood. Burnett disclosed the following information in an interview with People:

“Oh my God, I placed her in a third rehabilitation center, and by the time she got out, she despised me. I reasoned that if I loved her sufficiently, I should be able to accept the fact that she would despise me. After she stopped drinking, our relationship began to improve. In the end, we decided to collaborate on a project and write a play together. We collaborated on three different concerts over the year.

Unfortunately, not long after things began to look up, Carrie received the devastating news that she had lung cancer, which resulted in the premature end of her life. She was just 38 years old when she passed away owing to problems caused by pneumonia, which occurred after the cancer had progressed to her brain. During this time, Burnett endured a tremendous deal of suffering, but he had no choice but to find a method to get through it. “You don’t get over it, but you learn to cope with it,” she remarked. What else can you do?”

Burnett said, “Each and every day, I think of her.” Never once has she abandoned me…I simply sense her.”

In 1967, Burnett gave birth to her second child, Jody, after the birth of Carrie the previous year. Burnett disclosed this information in the same story that she did with Interview Magazine. The baby shower that Burnett threw for Jody was hosted by none other than Lucille Ball!

Burnett referred to Ball by describing her as a “very good friend.” “She threw me a beautiful baby shower for my second daughter,” the mother of the infant said. Evenings seldom get funnier than this one did. Both men and women were encouraged to attend. How many fathers-to-be plan to attend baby showers? It was just hilarious. There was also Anne Margret’s husband present there. Additionally, Rock Hudson.

In addition to this, comedian Gary Morton unwrapped all of the gifts in front of everyone and “did a monologue on each gift that was hilarious,” as Burnett recalled with fondness.

Jody followed in her father’s career as a film producer in Hollywood when she had grown up and achieved success in the industry. She began her own production firm with several pals titled Namethkuf, and she even produced her mother’s program, “Carol Burnett: Show Stoppers” – talk about keeping it in the family! Over thirty million people tuned in to see the television special that contained outtakes from all of Burnett’s previous comedy specials. However, it nearly didn’t happen. The family had just found of Carrie’s prognosis, and Burnett, who was understandably shocked by the information, sought to cancel the show. But it was Carrie who stepped in and said, “You have to do this, Mom,” Tim Conway, Burnett’s comic sidekick, said. “You have to do this.”

Jody has maintained her career in the entertainment industry by serving as a co-host on the podcast titled “From the Bunker” since the year 2014. She is the wife of the musician Lonny Paul, and the Pauls make their home in Los Angeles together.

Erin, Burnett’s youngest daughter, was born in 1968, making her her father’s youngest child. Erin grew fascinated by music after being attracted by her mother’s profession in the entertainment industry. In particular, she became intrigued with the band The Grateful Dead, whom she followed throughout the nation before choosing to pursue her own goals of becoming a musician. Erin’s gift was singing, so naturally, she endeavored to make a living in the music business. According to Closer, her most recognizable single is “Dream Weaver,” which was originally a success for Gary Wright in 1975 and was covered by her in 1998.

Erin is a mother to two children of her own; the first is a boy called Zachary, whom she has with her former husband, the singer Trae Carlson; the second is a son named Dylan, whom she shares with her husband, Tony West.

Erin, much like her sister before her, struggled with substance misuse for a significant portion of her life. Burnett even had to step in when things became too much for her daughter in the year 2020, and she even took a significant role in the rearing of her younger grandson, Dylan. Both of these events occurred in the year 2020. Burnett is quoted as saying the following in The Blast:

Since the birth of her son Dylan, Erin has struggled mightily with serious drug misuse as well as addiction concerns throughout her whole adult life. Erin has spent time in and out of rehabilitation clinics throughout the course of the previous 19 years, and she has been hospitalized a total of eight times for a minimum of 30 days during each stay.

Dylan spent some time living with Burnett prior to the appointment of a permanent guardian for him in the year 2022. A source close to the situation revealed to Closer that Burnett and her grandchild “adore each other.” They have the same fundamental nature. His sense of humor is similar to Carol’s. He is such a charming young guy.

Burnett has learned a valuable lesson from both the triumphs in her professional life and the trials she has had in her personal life: she should never take anything for granted. A few months before she turned 90, Burnett shared the following with People magazine:

“Everything may change in the blink of an eye. Therefore, you should simply be thankful for what you have today.”
