A teen janitor returned a lost bag to a wealthy lady and, years later, inherited her business, Story of the Day.

19-year-old Martin supported himself while working as a janitor in a supermarket. One day, while he was mopping floors, he came across a wealthy woman’s wallet and decided to return it. The boy did not know that karma would thank him in the most unexpected way.

Martin was mopping the floors of the supermarket on a normal day when a woman walked in and parked her SUV right outside. Their eyes met for a while, and the woman stopped.
«Have we met, young man?» she asked, and Martin shook his head.
«I’m sorry, I’m just confused. I don’t think we’ve ever met. I’m sorry».
«Oh, it’s all right. Well, then good day,» she said with a smile and disappeared into one of the ranks.
Martin returned to his work and again noticed the woman as she was paying. As she was leaving the store, he smiled softly at her, and she smiled back.

After mopping the floors, Martin was about to go home when he noticed on the ground, right outside the store, the purse. He remembered that the purse belonged to a woman who had previously been shopping at the store and opened it to see if it had an ID card with her address on it.
Luckily, he found one, and he decided to return it to her. There were also several dollar bills, but Martin did not touch any. He got on his bike and drove to her house. When he got to the house, he knocked on the door, and she was surprised to see him.

«Oh, it’s you! Shop boy!»
«Hi,» said Martin, holding out the wallet. » You dropped it outside the store. Just check again to see if everything’s there. If you have lost any cards or IDs, report it to the police».

«Oh, God!» she said. » Thank you so much! I didn’t know I dropped it. By the way, my name is Suzanne. And, oh, my God, everything seems fine…», she added, checking her wallet. «It had $2,500 in it, and none less».
«Then cool; I’ll go. Good day.»
«Okay,» she said. » Since you’re here, why don’t you have dinner with me? You came all this way for this. It wouldn’t be fair if I didn’t return the favor».
Martin wanted to refuse, but could not, because for a few days he had not eaten normally. He was only 19 years old, he lived an orphan. The only thing he could cook was ramen, and he hasn’t had a home-cooked meal in months!
«Thank you,» he said shyly, following her into the house.
Suzanne was a fantastic cook, and for dinner, she made delicious spaghetti and meatballs that Martin couldn’t resist.
«It’s delicious!» he said with a broad, satisfied smile when he bit off the first bite. «You’re a great cook!»

«That’s very kind of you, young man!» Suzanne smiled. «By the way, you didn’t tell me your name».
«My name is Martin, I’m 19 years old, and I’m currently working part-time at the store. Mom and Dad kicked me out of the house, so you can call me an orphan. Honestly, I don’t care».
«Dear God, it’s terrible!» Suzanne gasped. » If you don’t mind, I’ll ask what happened?»

«Grandpa was a pretty rich man, and Mom and Dad used him well,» said Martin. «Grandfather was a famous lawyer. After he died, he left everything to Dad, and Dad spent all the money on himself. He kicked me out of the house and stopped supporting me when he ran out of money. Mom didn’t care either… They are too concerned about their problems».
«Well, I’m sorry this happened,» said Suzanne. «But I’m a lawyer too. And frankly, Martin, you remind me of someone. What was your grandfather’s name again?».

When Martin said his grandfather’s name, Suzanne smiled broadly. It turned out that Martin’s grandfather’s law firm was one of the most famous in the early 1990s, and Suzanne’s first work was at his grandfather’s firm.
«He was a brilliant man!» said Suzanne cheerfully. «I will never forget his principles and what he taught me. In fact, I have given these valuables to the lawyers who work for me today».
«I know Grandpa was great,» said Martin sadly, putting off the fork. » I want to be a lawyer like him, but… but no money, you know. I can barely afford an apartment».

«Well, then it’s time to return your kindness,» said Suzanne.
«I’ll pay for your college, Martin, and you should make your grandfather proud. See, my husband died years ago, all the kids live in different cities, and now my law practice and this empty house are all I have. I have all the free time in the world, and I can help you».
«Oh, no, that would be crazy. You offered me food to thank me for finding the wallet. The tuition would be too high. I don’t think I can take it».

But Suzane insisted on paying for Martin’s education, and she offered to help him in every way she could. Martin was grateful for her assistance and attended law school, and years later, he graduated summa cum laude. Suzane was moved to tears as she watched the young man succeed in life.
«Your grandfather will be very proud of you,» she told him when he first began working at her firm. «You should become the best in whatever you do, Martin.»
«Thank you, Suzane,» Martin said.
«Thank you for everything you did for me. If it weren’t for you, I wouldn’t be here.»
For the next eight years, Martin diligently worked as a lawyer, and when Suzane decided to retire, she handed over the management of her firm to Martin and allowed it to be renamed after his grandfather. One honest deed turned two lives around!
