Tom Selleck has been in the entertainment business for a long time and has had a very successful career.
The actor who gained fame on Magnum, P.I. and Blue Bloods is still enthusiastic about his profession; in fact, the new season of the critically acclaimed drama series will premiere very shortly.
Throughout his career, Selleck has taken on a variety of challenging roles. The 77-year-old, on the other hand, has a history of doing his own stunts, which has unfortunately come back to haunt him.
Tom Selleck wasn’t sure when he was younger that he wanted to be an actor. After he was born on January 29, 1945, in Detroit, Michigan, his family moved to California, where he grew up in the San Fernando Valley.
Even though his family didn’t have enough money for him to go to the University of Southern California (USC), Selleck dreamed of going there all the time.
He graduated from Grant High School in 1962. After deciding to attend Los Angeles Valley College, he made the decision to continue living at home with his parents in order to reduce his monthly expenses.
Early on, it seemed more likely that Tom would become a professional athlete than that he would become an actor. He was getting better and better at basketball, and he wanted to play professionally.
Taking all of this into account, it’s hard to imagine how happy he must have been to hear that the University of Southern California would give him a basketball scholarship.

But it wasn’t as easy as it seemed to play basketball at a high level in college.
KSL said that in the seven games he played for the USC Trojans in the 1965–1966 season, he only managed to score four points. The next year, he played in three games but didn’t score in any of them.

Selleck knew in the back of his mind that he probably wouldn’t make a living playing basketball. But he had a back-up plan, so he got a second job to help pay for school.
The student who wanted to be an actor got his first jobs in TV commercials and on The Dating Game.
When he thinks about it now, it wasn’t his proudest moment, but it changed his life more than he could have ever imagined.
He said it was «embarrassing and humiliating» to be on the show. I lost. Twice. I wasn’t funny or clever at all.»
But soon after that, 20th Century Fox offered Selleck a spot on their talent program. He started to improve his skills, but after two years, he took a break to serve in the military for six months.
When Selleck came back, he was fired. He didn’t give up, though. He thought he would do better as an actor.
In the early 1970s, he was in a number of TV shows as a supporting actor. Then, when Selleck was getting close to the middle of his 30s, he was in six different TV pilots. But he still didn’t make his big break.
Tom says that’s why a lot of people thought he became famous overnight when he got the part of Thomas Magnum in Magnum, P.I.

He had fought and struggled very hard, though.
Selleck said, «I didn’t get a real job until I was 35. That was the best thing that ever happened to me.»
«When I was 25, I looked like I was 35 but sounded like I was 15,» he said. «There are a number of very talented actors who do well as young leading men but don’t go anywhere because the public won’t accept them as adults.»
Magnum, P. I was able to make a lot of progress. From 1980 to 1988, Tom was a famous person because of the crime-drama TV show.
He finally won the award for Outstanding Lead Actor in a Drama Series in 1984, after being passed over for it four years in a row.
After trying for more than a decade without success to become a well-known actor, Selleck was almost ready to give up.
He was honest enough to say, «If Magnum hadn’t worked out, I probably wouldn’t have worked in this industry again.»
Because of Magnum, Tom became a cult star, and his career has been a huge success ever since. The actor has also been in movies like «Three Men and a Baby» and «In & Out.»
Also, he became known to a new generation of fans when he started playing Monica Geller’s older lover, Richard Burke, on the critically acclaimed sitcom Friends, which debuted in its second season.
Selleck got the role of Frank Reagan in the drama series Blue Bloods in 2010. This was the start of a new and exciting part of the actor’s career.
The 13th season of the show, which will start in the fall, has been given the green light.

Even though he has said in the past that he doesn’t like going to the gym, Selleck is working at his family’s ranch in Ventura, California, to keep himself in shape.

Selleck told Closer Weekly about the first time he met Jillie Mack in an interview. It happened at a show of the musical Cats, in which Mack was one of the main characters.
It was the 1980s, after Selleck’s 10-year marriage to model Jacqueline Ray ended in divorce.
Selleck says he’s not as good with women as the characters he plays on TV, but he met his future wife backstage, though she was the one who made the first move.
She had to go on stage and do a show. She finally asked me, «Do you want to meet for a cocktail?» when I didn’t know what to do.
The date went well, and in 1987, Selleck and Mack tied the knot in a small ceremony. Their first child, Hannah, was born exactly one year after they got married.
Since then, Tom Selleck has put his family before his acting career and has worked hard to keep his private life out of the public eye in Hollywood.
He actually put his acting career on hold so he could spend more time with his wife and beloved daughter.

Tom couldn’t wait to show his daughter why he loved being outside and in nature so much. He gave it to her as soon as he was able to.
Hannah grew up on Tom and his wife Jillie’s 65-acre ranch in Ventura. Both the father and the daughter love horses, so they started breeding horses as a side business.
Hannah went on to make a living riding horses, which she was really good at.
She’s done well enough over the years to get into a few Grand Prix-level competitions, where she’s won a few medals.
In 2018, Selleck was in an accident that broke both her tibia and her fibula. Because of this, she was warned that she might never be able to run again. However, this did not turn out to be the case.
Later, she turned her love of horses into a very successful horse breeding and training business called Descanso Farm.
I really hope that she and her father Tom will be able to keep loving horses for a long time to come.
