Thanks to a newborn, a nurse meets an ex-patient 30 years later

The son of American Renata Freudin and David Caldwell was born 10 weeks premature. Baby Zane was admitted to the neonatal intensive care unit in New Brunswick, New Jersey. Nurse Liss McGowan was appointed to look after him.

At home, Renate decided to look at David’s childhood photos to see how much his son resembled his father. She came across a picture of David as a baby in the arms of a nurse. Renate was surprised to discover that the nurse in the photo from 30 years ago is the same Liss who is caring for their son now.

David told Renata that the nurse in the photo cared for him when he was in the same situation as their son. “Mum loved the nurse who looked after me so much that she asked her to take a picture with me on the day I was discharged,” David added.

The parents decided to recreate an old family photo: Lissa now had a three-week-old baby boy, Zane, in her arms.

Nurse Liss says that for her, meeting David after 30 years thanks to his newborn son is a pleasant surprise!
