Geneviève Purinton was a sad woman in 1949 when she was informed that her newborn daughter was not alive. She couldn’t see it, let alone hold it. Now 88 years old, Geneviève was finally able to meet her daughter who was alive.

It turns out that Geneviève’s daughter, Connie Moultroup, was adopted. She lived 69 years without knowing anything about her biological mother. Mother and daughter will reunite later thanks to an Ancestry DNA test kit, given to Moultroup by his daughter for Christmas.

A woman can finally hold her daughter in her arms – 70 years after she was born.

Moultroup’s daughter, Bonnie Chase, recounts her mother’s childhood. Moultroup’s adoptive mother left five years after the adoption, and the stepmother who arrived later behaved very badly towards Moultroup. Like any child in difficulty, Moultroup dreamed of the moment when his own mother would come to his rescue. Chase says finally reconnecting with Purinton is therefore the fulfillment of a lifelong dream for his mother.

When Chase gave her mother the DNA kit, she didn’t really think it would lead to such a massive reveal. In his words, “It was just a cool Christmas present and it completely changed our lives. Chase also got her own kit, which led her to cousins in the Purinton family. These are the people who told him about Purinton. Mother and daughter spoke to each other for the first time on September 8, on the phone. Moultroup sent a card to his birth mother in the mail, and when Purinton called, she claimed she thought she was his mother. Purinton mentioned Moultroup’s original name, Margaret Ann Mitch, whom Moultroup remembered.

After this discovery, the couple met for the first time. They are delighted that their kit was able to reunite a long separated family. A statement from their spokesperson Jasmin Jimenez via email said: “We are delighted that Ancestry was able to play a role in helping to connect Genevieve Purinton with her daughter after 69 years. We wish him and his family the best, and this is just the start of a lasting relationship.

Chase talks about the joyful effect the revelation brought to the family. “We cry a lot,” she said. The reunion was a very emotional event for the family, and they are just happy and grateful to be together.

As mother and daughter reunited, Purinton also got to meet her other grandchildren and great-grandchildren for the first time. As for Moultroup and Chase, that’s a lot of cousins, nephews and nieces, among a bunch of other relatives to finally get to know.

Let’s look at this incident as a testament that all is never truly lost as long as you keep your hope alive. Moultroup never gave up on his dream for nearly 70 years, and it finally came true.
